Join Derbyshire Dog Services for a fun-filled family day out, this Sunday 18th September at Holmebrook Valley Park.
This time we are going full Carnival style with a canine fancy dress procession at 12 noon. Along with lots of colourful dogs, there will be a local dance group Iconix Acadamy Dance School joining the procession and then performing short routines. There will be three categories for the fancy dress, Best Carnival King or Queen, Most Colourful Canine and the Best Carnival Couple, this will be open to adults and canines or children and their dogs. So don't be shy, we are hoping to see lots of feathers, frills, sparkles and bright colours!
Registration opens at 10.30am and the first classes start at 11am. £3 per class.
We have chosen classes to suit all abilities, sizes and breeds, and to add some fun!
Festival Alley is a recall competition with lots of distractions like toys, treats and noises to make the recall that bit tougher.
Fastest Retrieval is for those dogs that love to bring you back a gift, lets see how fast they can retrieve.
Most Comical Character, does your dog pull funny faces or do crazy things? If so lets celebrate their quirkiness!
Best ball Catcher, how many and how fast can your canine catch balls, if you think your dog is the best ball catcher, this class is for you!
Musical sits is just like musical chairs, only when the music stops the dogs have to sit, last one sitting is out. This usually causes much hilarity as the dog pawrents race it out and refuse to give up, whilst their canine companions really don't know if they should sit or sing.
Best Trickster is always popular as owners demonstrate their dogs talents, best of three wins, and you have a hat trick!
Straw Bale Racing for those adrenalin junkie canines that love the chase, let your dog have a go and see how fast they can bale jump.
And then we have all the lovely classes for each generation from Cutest Puppy to Golden Oldie, Loveliest lady, Most Fabulous Fella, and not forgetting the Teenie Weenies and the Big Friendly Giants.
And finally the Best in Show at 3.30pm.
We have some great prizes, and beautiful Rosettes kindly sponsored by Hasland Pet Supplies. You will definitely want to take one home with you!
At 2.30pm we will open a fun Obstacle Course, with a straw bale tunnel, jumps, a bridge, hoops, tyres to climb over and more. This is a Have-a-Go event £2.00 entry and there is no time limit, but if you do get stuck in the tunnel we are obliged to laugh!
And as if that isn't enough, we have a Water Park for dogs open all day. £1 entry per dog and up to four dogs for 10-15 min per session. The dogs must know each other and play nicely!
There will also be a Harness Fitting demonstration and an introduction to Derbyshire Dog Services, for anyone wishing to start or continue their canines education, or just to have fun! And a photographer taking action shots of the day, to capture the event, but also to promote her incredible talent.
Along with classes we have lots of lovely stalls selling dog clothing, accessories, dog treats, toys, dog services and much more. We have two wonderful Rescues attending, Spaniel Aid UK and the Central German Shepherd Rescue, so please pop along and hear all about their amazing work. And for the children we have Unicorn Pony Rides (real unicorns) and face painting as well as smash the Pinata. There will be a fabulous Raffle that will be drawn around 2pm so stick around to see if you have won one of the great prizes.
And as a mark of respect we will hold a one minutes silence at 1pm to remember her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II, and all that she has done for our nation and around the world.
Food and drink vendors will be available all day, along with ice cream, cakes and candy floss. So bring a blanket or chairs and have a picnic whilst watching the Carnival.
The show closes at 4pm.
